Acts 2:42: They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Bible Study Groups
Our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming environment where members and visitors of Sturge can experience true fellowship with both God and other Christians so that lives can be changed into the likeness of Christ.
They are where people share their lives, their prayers, and their encouragement. All groups share a mixture of Bible study and fun in an informal atmosphere. This is a great way to develop deeper relationships and connections with one another and explore your faith with others.
Lectio Divina (Sundays at 9:00 a.m. on Zoom)

Small Groups
Small group Bible study is currently on hiatus.
Small groups are where Christians invite friends and neighbors to discover what a Christian community is like. They can be Bible studies, fellowship groups, support groups, prayer gatherings…
As we can see from Acts, the early Church began with a small group. Much of this was for practical reasons. Followers of Jesus were growing (one estimate has the church growing at an average of 40 percent every decade for the first three centuries of existence), and they literally had no place to meet. Thus, the logical place to meet was in private homes.
What Happens In Small Groups? The main functions of a small group is for members to gather in the name of Christ, grow mature through the mutual practice of various Christian disciplines, then grow out by dividing and beginning again.
55 Plus
This is a fellowship group for those 55 and older. We meet regularly over many different activities and programs. Judge drops Rauner share suit

A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed Gov. Bruce Rauner’s lawsuit challenging the requirement that non union public employees pay a share of collective bargaining costs, but allowed three workers contesting the payments to proceed with their own complaint.

House Democrats say they’re working behind the scenes to draw up their own budget plan they hope can pass before a May 31 deadline as Republican legislative leaders complained Tuesday that their counterparts across the aisle are failing to “seriously engage” in negotiations with Republican Gov. District Judge Robert Gettleman’s ruling was the latest in an unfolding battle between the new Republican governor and public employee unions. Rauner has pushed to reduce union influence in government, even ordering his payroll agency in February to stop collecting so called fair share fees, before later agreeing to have them collected while lawsuits play out.
At issue are fees required by state law and collective bargaining agreements that require non union members to pay a share of the costs of contract negotiations and contract enforcement. Supreme Court, believing it is an unconstitutional violation of First Amendment free speech and freedom of assembly.
While the fees are not allowed to be used for union political activity, Rauner contends it’s impossible to separate out politics since public sector unions negotiate directly with the government.
In his ruling, Gettleman said Rauner lacked standing to challenge public unions in his official capacity because he had “no personal interest at stake.”
“In effect, he seeks to represent the non member employees subject to the fair share provisions of the collective bargaining agreements,” Gettleman said of Rauner and non union workers. “He has no standing to do so. They must do it on their own.”
In an attempt to move forward with his original lawsuit, Rauner amended it to include three non union employees who oppose making the fair share payments.
Gettleman acknowledged the workers had standing to file suit to challenge the payments and agreed “in the interest of judicial economy” to allow their complaint to proceed separately. He ordered attorneys for the state’s public employee unions to respond to the suit by June 10.
The workers challenging the fees have said they pay “fair share” dues ranging from $19 to $60 a month.
“While disappointed that he will not be a party to that lawsuit, the governor supports the fair share employees who are now leading this effort and will continue to pursue his own claims in state court,” Rauner’s office said in a statement.
The unions also issued a statement. “We’re gratified that the court has rejected Gov. Rauner’s latest ploy to weaken the unions that represent police officers, child protection workers, nurses and all who serve our state,” Illinois AFL CIO President Michael Carrigan said. “This should be a strong signal to the governor that it’s time he treats public service workers with respect.”
A separate union brought suit is in state court challenging Rauner’s attempt to ban collection of the fees. Carrigan
